Aplus Video converter Editor's Review

Toolset for converting video format files to different format.

Aplus Software Inc. has a generous number of utilities which will convert a long list of video formats to another. The driver, in the business sense, not in the software sense, seems to be the explosion in the number of devices, in particular portable devices, that can play video. The most popular set seems to be: FLV, AVI, DivX, ASF, WMV, WMA, MPEG, MOV, QT, RM, RMVB, but this list does not do justice to all the possibilities.

The process is straightforward, download the product on a trial basis, install and run it. Select the Video Converter and open your file, the one to convert. Select the format for output and click ‘Start’. At the end of the process you have your media in the format of your choice.

To gain popularity and acceptance our view is the software would benefit from an internal review which has in scope the following: all the text surrounding the product, descriptions, help text, should be overhauled and made easy to read; the company should satisfy itself that during download no attempt is made to download unsolicited webpages; the author(s) should commission professional software reviews, instead of writing their own.

Pro’s: Ease of use; cost – it can be bought for under £10.

Con’s: Issues surrounding the ‘product’ rather than the software.

Conclusion: Our sense is that there is nothing wrong with the product, but there are several niggles that we did not appreciate during our quest, each in their own way minor, but together creating a sense of unease and a wish to be working with a more transparent product.
